General Requirments to Apply For The Luxembourg Student Visa

An international student who wants to pursue an educational course in Luxembourg for more than 90 days will have to obtain a student visa. It is a long-term visa that is granted to those students who have already been accepted for admission by a recognized higher educational institute in Luxembourg.

The student visa is applicable for the purpose of studying, training in doctoral programs or carrying out research.

A foreign student who wants to study in Luxembourg must apply for and obtain the student visa before he or she arrives in the country.

To be eligible for Luxembourg student visa you must fulfil the following conditions:

1- You must provide proof of being enrolled as a full-time student in one of Luxembourg’s institutions for higher education

2- You must provide proof of full payment of tuition fee for the course

3- You must have a passport with a validity that extends the duration of the visa you are applying for by at least 6 months

4- Your passport must have at least two blank pages

5- You must have a copy of your completed and signed a visa application form

6- You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself monetarily during the course of your study in Luxembourg and for your return transportation

Work during studying

Working during the school holidays or the student contract (40 hours per week). To work during the school holidays, you must be under 27 years old. If you are over 27, you can only work under a conventional fixed-term contract. Work during the school holidays is limited to two months per the calendar year, only during the holidays (cf. the academic calendar).

Life after graduation

After completing their studies, third-country nationals may stay in Luxembourg to look for a job or start a business. they must then apply for a residence permit for the purposes of finding a job or setting up a business, before the expiry of their student residence permit or the end of their mobility scheme in Luxembourg. in the case where the student leaves Luxembourg at the end of their studies in the context of a mobility scheme, the student must apply for a residence permit in the first EU Member State where they started their studies.
